REUTERS/Elizabeth Frantz WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Consultant George Santos, who has confronted calls from fellow New York state Republicans to step down after fabricating a lot of his resume, is being investigated by the Home Ethics Committee, Home Speaker Kevin McCarthy confirmed to CNN on Tuesday.
“Ethics is shifting via, and if Ethics finds one thing, we’ll take motion,” McCarthy instructed the cable information outlet when requested about Santos’ constituents calling on him to resign.
The probe had not beforehand been confirmed.
Santos instructed fellow Republican lawmakers final week he wouldn’t serve on committees for now, lawmakers mentioned.
McCarthy mentioned then that the freshman lawmaker requested if he may recuse himself from his committee assignments whereas he works to clear up an ethics cloud. McCarthy known as it an “acceptable determination.”
Santos has rebuffed requires his resignation, saying he would vacate his seat provided that he loses the subsequent election.
